Casablanca

Casablanca
1029 Fourteenth Avenue SW

This building shows just how nice a condo-conversion project can make a building look. Built in 1964 as a 16-suite walk-up rental and renovated for conversion in 2004, Casablanca received the full treatment; all new windows and doors, new glass-insert balcony railings, high-end suite interiors with kitchens opened to living areas plus laundries, and common-property work including that cute little entry roof with pillars. Similar to the Ellendale just to the east, also a small concrete walk-up, two-bedroom suites are at the front, offering about 780 square feet each, while one-bedroom suites are at the back, offering just over 500 square feet. Also a half level below grade to reduce the climb to the top floor, this building did not see patios excavated for the two suites on the lower floor, either side of the main entry. I guess those owners could ask their building neighbours to allow that as an upgrade at their own expense; why not? There's parking for every suite around back on common property. Exterior windows and doors here are common property for maintenance, although they were new in 2004, so should last. I have the Condo Plan on file
